Namaste, Brown Girl.
Hot girl summer? Try having a spicy brown girl summer instead. 🌶️☀️💅🏽
We’re back in your inbox with Brown Girls, Money Moves—the brown girl business newsletter written by brown girls, for brown girls.
The BGA team took some much-needed OoO time. But while July had us sipping spritzes abroad, the real heat came from brown girls making moves.
In this edition, brown girls are raising rounds, rebranding skincare empires, and casually redefining what angel investing even means.

ANGEL INVESTING 101

Angel Investor vs. Venture Capitalist—what’s the difference? 🤔
Let’s break it down:
😇 Angel Investors = Individuals investing their own money (or through family offices), often the first true believers in early-stage startups.
💼 Venture Capitalists = Institutional professionals managing other people’s money (aka pooled funds)—think firms, funds, and sometimes committees.
At BGA, we’re proud to be a collective of brown girl angel investors. We’re not a VC fund—we’re an angel group. That means we’re early. We’re intentional. We’re betting on brown girl founders before everyone else catches on.
👩🏽💻 Founders → Choosing your funding source is one of your most important decisions. It’s important to understand the differences between angel investors, venture capitalists and other sources of funding before starting your fundraising journey. Not all money is created equal.
💰 Aspiring Investors → Looking to diversify your portfolio? Understanding how (and where) to deploy your capital is key—whether by investing directly or through a managed investment.
Got Qs? We’re here for them. Drop your angel investing questions to our instagram and we’ll answer them in a future issue.

I’m still on cloud 9000 after last month’s Toronto Tech Week event with SickKidsWomen Powered.
As a SickKids mom, hosting BGA’s first event in their new space was deeply full-circle. We gathered 50+ South Asian women—investors, founders, allies—to talk openly about money, investing, and impact. And we did it alongside an incredible partner, SickKids, whose WomenPowered model is reimagining philanthropy through the same lens —community-led, women-powered, and impact-driven.
This wasn’t just another networking event. We heard from three phenomenal brown girl founders, and we shared stories, strategies, and dreams.
There was a moment when I looked around and realized: this room, this energy, these women—it’s exactly what I imagined when BGA was just a dream in my head.
The room was electric. Because, as we all know, when brown girls get together, magic happens.
🌟 I hope you can join us for future BGA events. Watch this space to learn more—and bring a friend. Brown girl magic is better when shared.
All women—founders, investors, leaders, and operators—to talk openly about money, investing, and impact.
